Sylvie Bart
Sylvie was born in Hull, Quebec, and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. In her early twenties, she relocated to the West Coast, where she has continued to live and create. Her artistic journey began in childhood, inspired by frequent visits to the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. Though she loved to paint and draw from a young age, it wasn’t until after retiring from her diverse careers—as a yoga instructor, nurse, and web developer/designer—that she was able to return to her first passion: art fully.
Initially selftaught, Sylvie has since completed numerous workshops to expand her skills. Her previous professions and naturally curious spirit have fostered a deep trust in intuition and a commitment to lifelong learning. With a strong eye for design and colour, she quickly embraced evolving technologies and developed a distinctive creative approach that now shapes her artistic practice.
Sylvie works in a variety of media, drawn to the continual challenge and discovery that painting and drawing offer. She especially enjoys the unexpected outcomes that emerge while exploring and revisiting her more abstract pieces.
Her work is regularly exhibited in galleries, juried exhibitions, and member shows. An active member of her art community, Sylvie has founded local art groups, organized the Oceanside Studio Tour, and continues to volunteer her time and energy. She currently serves as vice-president of the DeCosmos Fine Art Society and is an exhibiting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (Arrowsmith and Nanaimo chapters).
Sylvie continues to learn, experiment, and create in her Qualicum Beach studio, nestled by the Salish Sea.
