Deb Salmon

Vancouver Island-based artist Debbie Salmon is a Canadian and a well-known artist living in the “Friendly Port” of Union Bay. She started oil painting in her teens, loving the creamy texture and the challenges it gave her to hone her skills.

Deb studied Fine Arts at the University of Concordia (Montreal) and later Graphic Arts and Communications at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Richmond and Newton, BC). She says she also learned a lot through trial and error.

In 1983, Debbie began her art career at a textile company in Burnaby, where she made logos and drew caricatures to be silkscreened on t-shirts, caps jackets, and sometimes sports bags. Three years later, she accepted a job as a Creative Ad Designer at one of the large newspaper chains in Vancouver, Black Press. In 1992, she continued her career as a Creative Ad Designer at the Comox Valley Record, continuing her love of art, painting on canvas.

Debbie’s inspirations come mostly from the beauty she sees all around her, as she views seascapes and landscapes with a painter’s eye.

Debbie started selling her work in shows in 2002. She loves meeting people and chatting about everyday life. She has given workshops and lessons in the Comox Valley and Victoria area.

Since 2017, Deb has been living her dream as a full-time artist. She feels a positive pull to be creative and share her knowledge with others.
